Practice exams are available if you want to prepare for the exam. They help you assess whether you are ready for the actual exam. The actual exam looks different from the practice exam.

What you need

To take the practice exams you need:

  • a desktop or laptop computer
  • an internet connection

Your computer must have Windows (XP and above), Mac OS X (10.2 PPC and above) or Linux (RedHat 7.3 and above) installed. If you're using a desktop computer, connect a microphone or use a headset with a built in microphone.

Knowledge of Dutch Society (KNS)

The KNS practice exam contains 5 questions. The real exam contains 30 questions and takes 30 minutes to complete.

During the exam, you will see photographs and you need to answer questions. The questions are read aloud slowly. For each question, you are shown 2 possible answers. Select the correct answer by clicking it with the mouse.

All KNS exam questions and answers are printed in the photo book, which you can read at home. The photo book is included in the self-study package.

Reading

The Reading practice exam is similar to the actual exam. Both exams contain 19 questions and take 35 minutes to complete. Only the questions are different.

The Reading exam consists of texts followed by questions. First, you read a short text. Then you answer the questions. After completing the practice exam, you can review which questions you answered correctly.

Speaking

The Speaking practice exam is similar to the real exam. The practice exam and the real exam have 22 questions. Both exams take 30 minutes. Only the questions are different.

The Speaking practice exam contains:

  • 10 questions you need to answer, and
  • 12 sentences you need to complete.

You should speak your answers into the microphone. After the exam, it will not be possible to see which questions you answered correctly.
